On to the next set of rugby photos!

Before we start the photos, let me take a moment to wish all of you a happy, healthy new year! It doesn't matter if you don't observe Rosh Hashanah--the wishes are just as sincere and proper!

Now, let's get to photos of Gotham's match against Fordham...

This is a separate run...

Hmmm. A lot of Jason photos in this post. Well, that's not so bad, is it?

Yeah, Jason's body is easy to look at! On that note, I think we'll take a break! Tune in next time for more fun from the rugby pitch! :)

Paul Newman

This morning, I learned of the passing of Paul Newman. I had heard that he was sick, and now he has left the world.

There is nothing good about my Mom being gone, but at least she doesn't have to live through this. She really liked Paul Newman. Her other favorite was Cary Grant. Hey, maybe they're all together somewhere, and she can meet both of them! Of course, that would mean Dad has to meet them, too. Hmmm. Well, Dad wasn't into movie stars, but he got along with the whole world, so why not?

Now, back to Paul Newman. I'm not an expert on him, but I always liked what I saw. He spoke up for causes he believed in, and he started a business that many of us know, Newman's Own. All of the profit from Newman's Own goes to help sick kids.

He was a class act. By all accounts, he was a faithful husband, married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years. When asked about the temptations that came from being a sex symbol, he said, "Why would I go out for hamburger when I have steak at home?"

Nicely put. Rest in peace, Mr. Newman. The world was a richer place for your presence in it.

The remaining photos from 12 days ago

I was going to say "last week's" photos in the title of this post, but it's almost two weeks ago. Also, I have photos from 5 days ago that I can share after these are done. We left off near the end of the first match. After the first match, they play a "B" side match that doesn't count for standings. It's just to let the less experienced players from both sides play a match.

As the guys who were playing come off the field, the others line up to greet them. The guy with the water bottle is new to the team. To his left (our right) is Steve--a guy who is both hot and a really nice guy. If I were single...

And on to the second match...

Okay, that's it for this post. If you would like to see the full set (these posts are only a sampling), go here. Then you can just click on "slideshow" toward the top right of the page and sit back and enjoy.

Continuing the rugby photos

We're still on last week's photos. It will be at least a few days before yesterday's are ready.

We had a productive weekend. Jeff came over, and he helped Marc clean out and rearrange the downstairs closet. They did a great job.

As for me, I did laundry and washed all three dogs. I tell you, a couple of hours in the shower with those dogs and I need to be put in traction! But at least they're nice and clean!

Anyhow, on with the photos...

And that will do for now. Time to go eat some cherries! (Yes, I live an exciting life!) :)

It's a rugby day!

This afternoon, I'm heading to a field at Fordham University for a rugby match. In the meantime, let's continue with photos from last week...

I'm on a roll, but I think I'd better stop there. I hope you enjoyed those. There are more to come!

A big tree and rugby photos

In front of our house is a tree older than either of us. I grew up with that tree. It's a huge maple, about 80 feet tall, but the poor old thing has been dying. Its highest branches have been bare of leaves, and it has dropped some large chunks of itself in the yard and street. It has other issues, as well, so we called the town and asked them to take a look at it. They did, and they confirmed that it's diseased. Today, a town contractor began the process of taking it down.

It has to go. Better this way than to have a storm bring it down on our house (or a neighbor's house). Still, I'm sad to see it go. It has been a fixture here--and in my life. I'll certainly get over its demise, but it's sad.

Okay, enough of that. On to happier things... rugby! Time to share some photos (as always, click on them for larger versions)...

Parts of the pitch were wet. That's why you'll see some splashing in a few photos.

Think maybe he got hurt when he was tacked? You'd be right.

Fortunately, he was able to get back up, so it appears he wasn't badly injured.

One of the new guys on our team

That will do for now. Besides, I have to get ready to go back to work. I came home early today, so I can change into my tuxedo. Tonight starts our annual Employee Appreciation Day. We start with the evening shift and run festivities around the clock, so that everyone can enjoy it.

This year, we're doing a sort of Oscars-themed event, recognizing our employees as the "stars" of the hospital. We even have a red carpet. So, as the head of HR, I not only have to be there, but I'm going to don my tuxedo and greet our "stars" as the come down the red carpet. It should be fun, but I started my day at the usual time today and may have to stay there until midnight! This is a long day!
