Paul Newman

This morning, I learned of the passing of Paul Newman. I had heard that he was sick, and now he has left the world.

There is nothing good about my Mom being gone, but at least she doesn't have to live through this. She really liked Paul Newman. Her other favorite was Cary Grant. Hey, maybe they're all together somewhere, and she can meet both of them! Of course, that would mean Dad has to meet them, too. Hmmm. Well, Dad wasn't into movie stars, but he got along with the whole world, so why not?

Now, back to Paul Newman. I'm not an expert on him, but I always liked what I saw. He spoke up for causes he believed in, and he started a business that many of us know, Newman's Own. All of the profit from Newman's Own goes to help sick kids.

He was a class act. By all accounts, he was a faithful husband, married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years. When asked about the temptations that came from being a sex symbol, he said, "Why would I go out for hamburger when I have steak at home?"

Nicely put. Rest in peace, Mr. Newman. The world was a richer place for your presence in it.

I was sorry to hear of Mr. Newman's passing this morning. You're right, he was totally a class act...and I fear that when the rest of his generation has gone as well, we won't be able to stand up to the comparison!

Meanwhile, I hope your Mom's already had a chance to make him feel welcome in the Hereafter!

Oh I just saw this, very sad. I guess the stories that he was dying of cancer were true.
