This is our nephew Owen...
Owen is 4 years old. Owen has many activities. One that he occasionally enjoys is punching a mini-punching bag in the basement of his house. As he will tell you, his dad has taught him that he's not to hit anyone unless they hit him first.
Well, he was at the public pool the other day. As his father watched, he approached two kids who were playing together to see if he could play with them. One of the kids turned around and hit Owen in the stomach. Owen knew the rules. He'd been hit, so he was free to respond. The kid who hit Owen in the stomach got a fist to the head and was knocked unconscious.
I know I shouldn't be proud of my 4-year old nephew for an act of violence, but I'm glad he stood up for himself. He didn't start the fight, but he finished it and that works for me.

God dang. Who tells their kids it's ok to haul off and punch some other kid unprovoked? If Owen were my son, I'd have hoisted him on my shoulders for a victory lap around the pool after whacking that little prat.
Good grief. Kids these days, I swear. After that story, I won't ever punch a four-year old again.
you go little boy!
I'd be proud too. Teaching kids not to antagonize or provoke while at the same time to rapidly "neutralize" (ie: haul off and take down) anybody who attack them is an important lesson. Owen has learned well.
About a boy: You are refering to Jess's nephew, right?
Good going, Owen! The other kid deserved it for the unprovoked punch in the stomach. And knocked him unconscious! No one's going to mess with him when he gets older....
ha ha! that rocks! owen is my hero du jour!
That made me laugh - naughty of me I know. One of my nephew's friends hits him. but he tends to ignore it.
